Preferred Insights: Excel Export & AI Cap Table Import Feature Update
March 2025 Feature Update
Hey friends and supporters,
Today we are launching two major new features: Excel Waterfall Model Export and AI Cap Table Import.
Auditability and ease of import were the most frequently mentioned pain points by Preferred Insights users. And we listened. With the new Excel waterfall export feature, you can export a fully linked Excel waterfall model (full formulas, no hardcoding). With the new AI import feature, you can import a cap table in under 10 seconds (and no typing at all).
The two features are all launched, released, and available to you on the Preferred Insights right now. But if you want to see a quick demo, below are two Loom videos with Yuri’s voiceover:
Excel Waterfall Export
The new export feature addresses the below user feedback:
Auditability: Full model export gives you full transparency into how Preferred Insights built and calculated the waterfall and return profile.
Customizability: The Excel model allows you to customize the calculation to your unique deal structure. This is important especially if your deal structure deviates from the NVCA standard deal terms.
Compatibility: Most other financial analysis stack runs in Excel. By having the waterfall model in both cloud and Excel, you have the best of both worlds.
To export your first waterfall model, click on “Export Excel” on the Preferred Insights dashboard:

You can select from three options:

AI Cap Table Import
The goal is to allow our users to load cap table into Preferred Insights with the minimal amount of grunt work. This process takes less than 10 seconds, which is a drastic reduction from the manual input time of 3 minutes.
To use this feature: click on “Import Cap Table with AI” on the Preferred Insights Dashboard.

Then, drag and drop an image/screenshot of a cap table, select a cap table image to upload, or paste a screenshot of cap table directly from the clipboard. Note that the file needs to be an image.
Tips for taking screenshots: On Windows, the shortcut to take screenshot is Win+Shift+S. On Mac, the shortcut is Cmd+Shift+4.
We currently do not support uploading Excel files into our AI model yet.
